Hi Fiona The small glass of wine icon does not appear on the top of my screen. Do I need to install Wine as well? I am using Lion OS.

@Stef: To open Firefox and other applications in your Wine, click Wine.app inside your Applications folder. A small glass of wine icon will appear on the top of your screen. Click it, and choose “File Manager”. A window will appear. Find your firefox.exe inside the “Program Files” folder.

To add: (sorry to spam), I’m actually unable to install Firefox or VLC. When I double click on the .exe files, the X11 icon comes up and then nothing else happens. I did install Sopcast successfully, but without the others it won’t work.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for all this info. I am still really confused though!

I have everything installed, I think, but I don’t know how to open anything. I keep seeing instructions like “open Firefox in Wine” but I don’t know how to do that. Are there icons somewhere that I can click on? How do I open Sopcast, Firefox, and VLC through Wine?

Confused!

@Finn: You’re welcome, Finn. Good thing it is now working for you Just an info, if I’m not mistaken, X11 is necessary to allow Mac simulate the Windows environment (hence, the name Wine).

Coming late to the party. I ran into many problems until I figured out that one has to download zip versions of the above. Unzip and then “Open With” wineglass.

I still have no clue as to what X11 does. A little window pops open and sits there for what reason I have no idea.

Thank you for the tutorial Fiona…it works wonderfully.

@Mos: It is automatically opened if you use Mozilla Firefox inside your Wine to open a sop protocol. If you want to use MacVLC, click File > Open Network. Type this URL http://localhost:8902/tv.asf or http://127.0.0.1:8902/
