World Cup 2010 was my first official soccer tournament that I’ve watched and from the start I’ve been (and will always) rooting for Spain. After tasting surprising defeat against Switzerland in the round robin stage, finally Spain won its first World Cup for the first time.

The final made me frustrated, to be honest. The play was really ugly: one of the ugliest moment is the kungfu kick from Nigel de Jong to Xabi Alonso’s chest.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gAn6x6hMqUo

While in the first half English referee Howard Webb was really generous in giving yellow cards (a total of 9 yellow cards), he was really a different person in the second half rarely giving yellow cards. A record of 14 yellow cards – including two which caused Dutch player John Heitinga to be sent out – were given out during the match, a record for a World Cup final.

Both teams have their chances. Iker Casillas has been really wonderful being able to make several crucial safe. Finally near the end of extra time (to be exact, 4 minutes to the end), Andres Iniesta sacked the ball into Netherlands’ and ensured Spain to get its first World Cup.

David Villa got the silver boot though his goals tied with Thomas Muller and Wesley Sneijder. Muller made more assists than Villa. Congrats to him. He’s young, only 20, and it was his first World Cup but he has proven himself worthy for his team.

And…

The Deddy Corbuzier’s prediction was true (well, I’m not as surprised as when knowing Paul’s predictions come true). The code NZ1235HZ6 was the code for his YouTube video prediction which he claimed has been made before.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6WYnOQyWQe4

Lastly, congrats to Spain. I am now officially a soccer fan. Maybe I’ll check out La Liga since David Villa, Iker Casillas, Xavi, Iniesta are all playing there. And probably I’ll root for Barcelona FC.

Little note: I feel “lost” after the World Cup ended… So sad that it has ended. And I’ve to wait for another 4 years until the next cup. Thank God there is still Euro 2012 to ease these feelings a lil bit.

Not really surprising since Nadal received barely challenges from Tomas Berdych when winning the Wimbledon 2010. Compare it to Wimbledon 2008 when Nadal finally able to surpass Roger Federer in five-set-thriller longest Wimbledon match in history.

As Germany defeated England 4-1 in the round 16 of World Cup 2010, Indonesia proved itself again as the ruler of Twitter’s trending topics!

Germany sacked the first two goals thanks to Miroslav Klose and Lukas Poldoski. The Englishmen tried to tie the score and Matthew Upson successfully contributed 1 goal. The score was 2-1 for German. Then, Lampard tried to create another goal. The ball hit the upper part of the goal frame, bounced definitely inside the goal line (can be seen through the video replay), but was not counted by the referee and his assistants.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rqjjb4ytoFI

Poor England… They failed to tie the score, even failed to score another goals as they were defeated by the Germans 4-1.

But hey, the Indonesian proved themselves to play major role in the Twitter’s trending topics (commonly abbreviated as TT)!

Before the match between England and Germany, three of the trending topics were “nonton IMB”, “Putri Ayu”, and “Christian Bautista”. Those topics are referring to an Indonesian show called “Indonesia Mencari Bakat” (abbreviated IMB) where Putri Ayu is one of the contestants and Christian Bautista, Filipino singer, was the guest judge.

And after the match… Here is the screenshot of the Twitter’s trending topics:

See the words “Wasit Goblog”? The Indonesian phrases means “stupid referee” in English.

From this fact, we can conclude that Indonesians truly are major players in the Twitter world. They rules the Twitter’s trending topics!

(As an Indonesian, I do not know whether I should be proud of this achievement or be ashamed of it…)
